Adding Your First Horse

This guide will walk you through adding your first horse to EquineOps.

Quick Tip: You can add horses one at a time or import multiple horses from a spreadsheet. This guide covers adding a single horse.

Before You Begin

Gather the following information about your horse:

  • Barn name (required)
  • Client/owner information
  • Registered name (optional but recommended)
  • Registration numbers (if applicable)
  • Basic details: breed, color, sex, date of birth

Adding a Horse

From your dashboard, click on “Horses” in the main navigation menu or click the “Add Horse” button on the dashboard quick actions.

Click “Add Horse”

In the top right corner of the Horses page, click the ”+ Add Horse” button.

Fill in Basic Information

Required Information:

  • Barn Name: The everyday name you use for the horse (e.g., “Buddy”, “Star”)
  • Client: Select the owner or client from the dropdown
    • If the client doesn’t exist yet, click “Add New Client” to create one

Barn Name vs Registered Name: The barn name is what you call the horse day-to-day. The registered name is their official name with breed registries.

Add Registration Numbers (Optional)

If your horse has registration numbers, you can add them here:

  1. Click “Add Registration”
  2. Select the registry type (USEF, USHJA, breed registry, etc.)
  3. Enter the registration number
  4. Repeat for additional registrations

You can add multiple registration numbers for different organizations.

Assign to Programs (Optional)

Choose which programs this horse should be part of:

  • Feed Program: Assign a feeding schedule
  • Farrier Program: Schedule farrier visits
  • Health Tracking: Enable health monitoring

You can skip this step and assign programs later if you prefer to set up programs first.

Upload Documents (Optional)

Attach important documents such as:

  • Registration papers
  • Coggins test results
  • Health certificates
  • Vaccination records

Click “Upload Document” and select files from your computer.

Save Your Horse

Click the “Create Horse” button at the bottom of the form to save your new horse.

What Happens Next?

After creating a horse:

  1. Profile Created: The horse profile is immediately available
  2. Programs Started: If you assigned programs, they become active
  3. Tasks Generated: Recurring tasks are created based on program assignments
  4. Search Indexed: The horse becomes searchable in universal search
