Programs
Programs in EquineOps help you systematically track essential horse care activities. EquineOps provides 4 programs: three care programs (Health, Farrier, Feed) that are automatically created for every horse, plus the Training Board for weekly scheduling.
Why These Programs? Health, Farrier, Feed, and Training Board are deeply integrated throughout EquineOps. These programs cover the most critical aspects of horse care and training, providing powerful features that wouldn’t be possible with generic custom programs.
The 4 Programs
Every horse in EquineOps appears in these four programs:
Plan weekly training schedules in a grid view with one activity per horse per day
📊 Training BoardTrack vaccinations, deworming, dental work, and veterinary visits with automatic due date tracking
🏥 Health ProgramManage shoeing schedules, record visits, and track next due dates for all horses
🔨 Farrier ProgramBuild your feed catalog and assign grain, hay, and supplements to individual horses
🥕 Feed ProgramWhy These Four Programs?
Automatic Program Creation
When you add a new horse to EquineOps, the Health, Farrier, and Feed programs are automatically created for that horse. The Training Board shows all horses automatically. You don’t need to set anything up - just start recording data.
Deep System Integration
These programs are integrated throughout EquineOps:
- Dashboard widgets show upcoming farrier appointments and overdue health items
- Calendar view displays all program activities
- Universal search finds program records instantly
- Mobile app provides quick access to all three programs
- Reporting tracks completion rates and trends
Program-Specific Features
Each program has specialized features that wouldn’t work with generic custom programs:
- Training Board: Week grid view, copy operations, print-ready schedules, smart task suggestions
- Health Program: Product tracking (multiple vaccines per visit), vet assignments, custom health types
- Farrier Program: Batch operations (record multiple horses at once), shoeing type catalogs, cost tracking
- Feed Program: Quantity and frequency tracking, manual sorting, batch supplement assignments
Industry Standard Care
These programs align with industry-standard horse care and training practices:
- Training: Structured training schedules keep horses in work and staff coordinated
- Health: Regular vet care is essential for every horse
- Farrier: Hoof care is required every 4-8 weeks
- Feed: Every horse needs a feeding program
How Programs Work
1. Start with Any Program
You can start using any program immediately after adding a horse. Most facilities begin with the Feed Program since it’s needed daily.
2. Record Activities
Each program has specific ways to record activities:
- Health: Record individual visits with products, dates, and next due dates
- Farrier: Set default schedules, then record actual visits
- Feed: Build your catalog, then assign items to horses
3. Track Due Dates
Programs automatically track when the next activity is due:
- Health items show next due dates for each type (vaccination, deworming, etc.)
- Farrier visits calculate next due based on frequency
- Feed programs are ongoing - no due dates needed
4. View Across All Horses
See program data across your entire operation:
- Dashboard: Upcoming and overdue items for all horses
- Calendar: All scheduled program activities
- Reports: Program completion and health trends

Program Best Practices
Keep Records Current
Programs are most valuable when kept up to date. Make recording activities part of your daily routine.
Use All Four Programs
Each program provides critical insights into horse care and training. Don’t skip any - they work best together.
Review Regularly
Check your dashboard weekly for upcoming and overdue items. This ensures nothing gets missed.
Train Your Team
Make sure everyone on your team knows how to record program activities. Consistency is key to accurate records.
Start Simple, Build Gradually
You don’t need to record every historical visit. Start with current data and build your history over time.
What Programs Don’t Do
Programs in EquineOps are for recording and tracking horse care activities. They are not for:
- Creating custom recurring tasks (use the Tasks module instead)
- Scheduling training sessions (use the Calendar)
- Tracking riding activities (use Notes or custom fields)
- Managing shows or competitions (use the Events module)
Common Questions
Q: Can I create a custom program for training or showing?
A: EquineOps provides 4 programs (Training Board, Health, Farrier, Feed). The Training Board handles training scheduling with a weekly grid view. For shows and other activities, use the Tasks module for recurring tasks or the Calendar for scheduling.
Q: Can I delete a program from a horse?
A: No, the Health, Farrier, and Feed programs are automatically created for every horse. You don’t have to use all of them - unused programs simply won’t have any data. The Training Board shows all horses automatically.
Q: Can I customize program fields or add custom data?
A: Programs have fixed fields designed for their specific purpose. For custom data, use the Notes feature or custom fields on the horse profile.
Q: What if I don’t use farriers (natural hoof care)?
A: The Farrier Program works for any hoof care provider. Just use the program to record visits from your natural hoof care practitioner.
Q: Do I need all four programs?
A: You only need to actively use the programs relevant to your operation. Most facilities find value in all four - Health, Farrier, and Feed for care tracking, plus Training Board for scheduling.
