Setting Up Kiosk Mode
Enable kiosk mode from the sidebar settings to turn your device into a shared barn station.
Enabling Kiosk Mode
- In the sidebar, scroll down to Settings
- Click Kiosk Mode
- Toggle Enable Kiosk Mode on
Once enabled, you’ll see additional configuration options and a green “on” indicator next to Kiosk Mode in the sidebar.
Configuration Options
Visible Navigation
Control which pages are available on the kiosk device. Check or uncheck pages to show or hide them:
- Dashboard
- Calendar
- Horses
- Documents
- Media
- Programs
- Task Lists
- Clients
- Expenses
- Staff
Unchecked pages display a “Not available in Kiosk Mode” message if someone tries to navigate to them. Pages like Account and Integrations are always hidden in kiosk mode.
Tip: For a barn feed station, you might only enable Dashboard and Programs. For a general-purpose station, leave most pages visible.
Require Staff PIN for Actions
When enabled, staff must enter their PIN after selecting their profile to confirm their identity before making any changes. This prevents someone from accidentally (or intentionally) making changes under another person’s name.
When this setting is off, staff still select their name before making changes, but no PIN is required.
Changing this setting while in kiosk mode requires an admin PIN verification to prevent unauthorized changes to security settings.
Session Timeout
Choose how long a staff session stays active after their last action:
- Never — Session stays active until manually ended
- 2 minutes — For high-traffic devices where many people use it quickly
- 5 minutes — Default, good for most barns
- 10 minutes — For devices used less frequently
- 15 minutes — For offices or low-traffic areas
- 30 minutes — For devices used by one person at a time for longer periods
When a session expires, the next action will prompt staff identification again.
How It Works
Once kiosk mode is enabled:
- Staff makes a change — When anyone tries to create, edit, or delete something (like adding a feed item or updating notes), the staff selector appears
- Staff selects their name — A list of all staff members is shown
- PIN entry (if required) — If “Require staff PIN” is enabled and the staff member has a PIN set, they enter it
- Action proceeds — The change is made and logged under that staff member’s name
- Session stays active — Subsequent actions within the timeout period don’t require re-identification
Exiting Kiosk Mode
To turn off kiosk mode:
- Click Kiosk Mode in the sidebar (visible in the Support section when kiosk mode is active)
- Toggle Enable Kiosk Mode off
The Settings section and all navigation items return to normal.
